New Structured Light 3D Camera for Industrial Automation
VA Imaging Introduces a New Structured Light 3D Camera for Industrial Automation
VA Imaging introduces a new structured light 3D camera, developed for industrial automation applications where measurement accuracy, depth stability, and repeatable 3D reconstruction are essential. The system is designed for short-range 3D vision tasks in production environments, where conventional 2D machine vision or consumer-grade depth sensors often struggle to deliver consistent results.
Structured light is an active 3D imaging method that generates depth by projecting a known optical pattern onto the object surface. The camera captures the pattern deformation and reconstructs depth through triangulation, producing a dense depth map and 3D point cloud suitable for both inspection and robotics workflows. Because structured light does not rely on natural scene texture, it is particularly suitable for applications involving low-texture objects, complex geometries, and height variation, common challenges in industrial automation.
Designed for Precision 3D in Robotics and Inspection
The new camera is positioned for automation tasks where detailed surface reconstruction is required, including:
- Accurate object localization and pose estimation
- Surface inspection where height or shape is critical
- Dimensional measurement and geometry verification
- Robotics applications requiring stable depth input for grasp planning
Compared to stereo-based approaches, structured light can provide more stable depth results in low-texture scenes. Compared to time-of-flight systems, it typically delivers greater spatial detail for close-range precision measurement.
