Recent Graduate Lands International Machine Vision Role
JOHNSON CITY, TN [October 20th, 2026] – A recent ETSU graduate Blane Cornett has taken a substantial role with an international machine vision company, all while staying in his local town. Cornett graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and a concentration in Automation and was hired soon after by senswork Inc., a German-based company with a subsidiary in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Through Cornett’s studies, he learned automation, robotics, electronics, and manufacturing. This machine vision experience is what helped land Cornett the role with senswork. Cornett became their Project Engineer at their U.S. subsidiary, where they create custom-designed machine vision solutions for their entire North American clientele. His application stood out since he was the only engineering student who applied who had also taken a computer programming class.

After hiring the ETSU graduate, senswork flew Cornett to Germany for several weeks of additional training. This training helped familiarize Cornett with the software he would use daily while allowing him to connect with the German team where senswork was originally founded. Now Cornett communicates with the team remotely from the Johnson City office. “Initially, I was worried that working for a company based in Germany would make communication and coordination difficult, but with modern technology, the only challenge is the difference in time zones!” says Cornett. Now Cornett’s day to day involves programming the machine vision cameras so that they can communicate with the software while keeping projects running on time.
Cornett was hired at an opportune time, just as senswork is reaching its next milestones in growth. Senswork is not only a local machine vision company in East Tennessee, but it is now gaining a more national presence, along with its already global locations in Germany and China. “The products and service that we provide have increased efficiency and reduced manufacturing downtime and waste. Increasing automation is a goal for most companies in a modern industrial space, and our solutions help provide a path for this,” says Ryan Lilly. Cornett will help lead U.S. project engineering as the company continues to serve name-brand manufacturers nationwide.
